Next step week 11 in Murcia
Next step - Murcia
During our job shadowing visit to CEA Infante in Murcia, we experienced firsthand how key educational themes such as e-learning, student motivation, language barriers, and digital skills training are approached.
E-learning and Blended Learning in Second Language Training: We saw how a major challenge is that students opt for e-learning but often lack sufficient IT skills. A possible solution could be implementing short prerequisite courses to build digital competencies before engaging in e-learning. We observed that the introduction to e-learning should also encompass study skills related to AI and digital literacy. Additionally, the curriculum should focus on real-world applications of language learning, such as simulations, to increase relevance and engagement.
Motivation and Completion: We experienced how ensuring a structured and engaging learning environment is crucial. Initiatives such as learning contracts that clarify student responsibility, participation tracking, and visibility of student work in shared spaces foster motivation. Additionally, we saw how promoting positive reinforcement, emphasizing benefits, and incorporating well-being practices, like sleep guidance and meditation, help sustain student engagement.
Addressing Educational Gaps and Language Barriers: We observed that non-formal education at CEA Infante primarily attracts immigrants and retirees, with a flexible approach to evaluation and learning. Strong teacher-student relationships, positive classroom atmospheres, and on-site teaching in community spaces enhance inclusivity. Encouraging students to join extracurricular initiatives, such as book clubs, fosters social inclusion, organizational skills, and critical thinking.
Active Citizenship and Digital Skills Training: We saw that teachers have received AI training focused on lesson planning, content creation, evaluation, and collaboration. A similar 10-hour course for students has been introduced, providing a structured framework for digital skills development.
Our observations highlight the importance of structure, engagement, and inclusivity in education while integrating digital advancements and fostering active participation.
Thank you so much for having us CEA Infante!
